The Philosophy of Embodied Nondual Mentoring

“At the core of this work is a simple but profound realization:
the deepest truths are not just realized—they are lived.”
— Roma Hammel, Embodied Nondual Mentoring Program Founder

roma-hammel-realization-process-aboutRecognizing the essential role of spiritual mentorship, I created the Embodied Nondual Mentoring Program.

This program supports those seeking to deepen their realization and authentically express their true nature within a courageous, mutually resonant global community.

Glimpses of spiritual realization, however profound, do not necessarily transform how we live.

We may experience ourselves as fundamental consciousness and still disconnect from our bodies and boundaries in our closest relationships. We may recognize our essential nature and continue to organize our lives around old protections, inherited beliefs, and other people’s expectations. We may know moments of profound openness, intimacy, love, and freedom without yet being able to live from them in the ordinary circumstances of our lives.

As realization becomes embodied, it transforms how we perceive, feel, and relate.

The purpose of this mentoring program is to support that unfolding: to allow realization to become embodied, relational, and lived. This is not a process of perfecting yourself or transcending your unique human messiness. It is a process of:

  • attuning to your essence
  • becoming alive throughout the whole internal depth of yourself
  • living in the subtle, spiritual ground of yourself
  • and arriving at your own wild existence—in your body and history, your relationships and choices, your work and creativity, and your participation in the larger world.
In attuned relational spaces, long-hidden aspects of ourselves can be gently welcomed. As fear, shame, and resistance begin to soften, we become more able to unveil our natural radiance, authentic voice, strength, and joy.

Who This Program Is For

Embodied Nondual Mentoring is for people who have experienced something true and want to live from it more fully.

Some participants are longtime meditators, spiritual teachers, therapists, healers, coaches, or leaders. What they share is a longing to close the distance between what they have realized and how they live—to inhabit themselves more fully, remain present in relationship, and discover what becomes possible as realization meets the complexity of actual life.

What matters most is not expertise or attainment, but a willingness to enter experience deeply enough for something new to emerge. This means exploring not only your insights, but also the places where you contract, lose contact with yourself, or give away your authority.

  • speaking from direct experience rather than primarily from concepts
  • being curious about the questions that are alive in you
  • reflecting on your own process with honesty and care
  • allowing yourself to be changed through practice, relationship, and feedback
  • choosing genuine contact over polished self-presentation
  • revealing your humanness rather than performing attainment
  • recognizing that healing and awakening unfold through participation, not certainty

This work requires:

  • a willingness to understand your psychological history
  • sufficient emotional and energetic stability for this depth of work
  • therapeutic support when needed

Embodied Nondual Mentoring is not psychotherapy and is not a substitute for psychotherapy. The mentors are fully certified Realization Process teachers and offer practices that support embodied realization, personal maturity, and psychological healing. Participants are expected to have therapeutic support when needed.

The fundamental ground of your being has never been injured. As embodied patterns soften, you become increasingly able to inhabit yourself, remain present in relationship, and meet life with your whole body and being.

Why We Need Each Other

Spiritual practice is often imagined as an individual path. But we do not become fully ourselves in isolation. We have an essential need of each other to deepen in Reality. Another person reveals what solitary practice cannot. In relationship, we encounter the places where we leave ourselves, defend ourselves, merge, withdraw, grasp, or stop receiving. But relationship also calls forth capacities that may not emerge through solitary practice: tenderness, courage, receptivity, truthfulness, mutuality, and love.

When we can remain grounded in ourselves while meeting someone genuinely different, difference becomes a source of learning and wisdom. We do not have to resolve difference by agreeing, becoming alike, or deciding who is right. We can allow the encounter itself to reveal something that neither person could have discovered alone. This is why mentoring occurs within a living relational field. The group is not merely the setting for the work. Our life together is part of the work.

Five Interwoven Dimensions

Judith Blackstone’s Realization Process provides a precise phenomenological map of embodied nondual realization—of opening the whole body and being to fundamental consciousness and learning to live from this ground. It is not a belief system. Through direct practices, we enter and explore the territory for ourselves.

The five mentoring courses bring this map to life through distinct but inseparable inquiries.

  • In Presence, we cultivate a more stable sense of self, uncover our authentic voice, and deepen our attunement to ourselves, others, and our environment while remaining open to Reality.
  • In Intimacy, we develop our capacity to remain attuned to others without losing contact with ourselves—even when relationship becomes difficult.

The advanced courses depend upon these foundational capacities.

  • In Synergy, qualities and possibilities awaken in us that could not emerge alone as mutual resonance can deepen into mutual transmission.
  • In Love, we explore how to receive love more fully—and how, in receiving love, more of our humanity becomes receivable.
  • In Freedom, we explore the freedom to be who we truly and naturally are—to know and enjoy our existence and live as the fullness of the ground.

The advanced courses form a recurring cycle rather than a required sequence. Readiness for the advanced cycle is discerned individually. Each course offers a radically different inquiry while deepening and transforming everything that came before.

Presence establishes rootedness.
Intimacy opens rootedness into relationship.
Synergy allows relationship to become generative.
Love receives the fullness of what arises.
Freedom becomes spontaneous participation in life’s unfolding.

Mentoring Presence

Mentoring Presence explores what it means to inhabit ourselves fully while remaining open to Reality. Through whole-body, whole-being contact with fundamental consciousness, we cultivate a stable sense of self, uncover our authentic voice, and become more intimately attuned to ourselves, other people, and our environment. As we become more present and authentic, we also become more open, permeable, and transparent—able to sense what is alive and true and respond from a deeper source of love, insight, strength, and clarity.

Over seven months, participants do not simply learn about presence. They discover what presence asks of them—and what can become known only by inhabiting their own body and life.

Each participant follows a burning question into their lived experience. The inquiry begins with a personal Truth Talk and deepens through private mentoring and collaborative somatic inquiry within a Study Group. Each group then brings what it has discovered to the cohort as an original experiential teaching.

In the final movement of the course, participants speak individually from what has become most real in them. Rather than offering finished answers, they stand within their own experience, speak with their authentic voice, and allow what remains unresolved to stay open and alive.

Through meditation, relationship, inquiry, and the courage to be seen as they actually are, participants discover how presence lives uniquely through them. As they offer that presence to one another, something becomes available to the whole group that no one else could reveal.

Mentoring Intimacy

Mentoring Intimacy explores how realization becomes lived as genuine contact—with ourselves, other people, and life itself. We learn to remain deeply rooted in ourselves while opening to another without merging, distancing, performing, or disappearing. Relationship reveals where we are defended, longing, afraid, or ready to become more real, and these places become invitations into greater intimacy, authenticity, and love.

Throughout the course, each participant works privately with a mentor to follow an inquiry that has become alive in their body, history, relationships, and realization. Nine participants volunteer to bring their inquiries to the whole cohort. What emerges is not a presentation of what they know, but an original experiential teaching born from what has become true in them.

Through meditation, embodied practice, and shared inquiry, each teaching opens territory that no one else could have revealed. One person’s singular path becomes a doorway for everyone, deepening and transforming the whole field of understanding.

This sustained process invites us to:

  • inhabit our unique selves deeply enough to remain present and authentic while meeting another person.
  • discover that becoming more fully ourselves and experiencing our fundamental oneness with others deepen together.
  • bring the places where contact breaks down into embodied inquiry, allowing relationship to reveal and reorganize the defenses that limit intimacy.
  • perceive, receive, and respond to another through the whole internal depth of our being—with awareness, emotion, physical sensation, and love—within the unified relational field of fundamental consciousness.

Mentoring Synergy

Mentoring Synergy begins with the capacity cultivated in Intimacy: to remain situated in the innermost depth of our own being while opening to genuine contact with another. When we meet from this depth, resonance arises as a subtle vibratory response within each person’s body. Love meets love within each person’s chest. Understanding meets understanding as embodied knowing.

As resonance deepens, qualities of being may become more palpable, constrictions may soften, and dimensions of ourselves that had been lost or inaccessible may awaken. Synergy is allowing ourselves to be so touched by another that something opens and realizes itself in us.

Throughout the course, participants cultivate the capacity to remain rooted in themselves while allowing the distinctive presence of others to register in their bodies and affect the unfolding inquiry.

Nourishing Moments are brief guided meditations built from individual sentences in Judith Blackstone’s writing. Each invites participants to experience in their own bodies what her words describe—alone and in resonant contact with others. Within the whole cohort, one person’s discovery resonates through others and changes what becomes possible next. Something new emerges through everyone’s participation.

The course begins near the end of The Fullness of the Ground, travels backward through its teachings, and then returns to the end. Encountering the same words after months of embodied practice, we perceive something new in them because we ourselves have changed.

Participants learn to remain open to being affected without surrendering themselves, to follow resonance without deciding too quickly what it means, and to allow the inquiry to be shaped by what emerges between them. Through this sustained experience, synergy becomes a way of living in inquiry—rooted in ourselves, receptive to one another, and changed through contact.

Mentoring Love

Mentoring Love explores how love—constitutive of our essential nature—becomes palpable within us and in the space between us. As we become less defended and more transparent, love can be felt in how we perceive, move, and respond. Our presence can open love in the relational field, allowing others to experience it within themselves.

The course asks: What is love capable of receiving? As our capacity to receive love deepens, more of our humanity becomes receivable—including joy, rage, grief, sexuality, shadow, power, tenderness, and the holy NO. Love does not carry us beyond the intensity of human experience; it supports us in remaining present without permitting harm or abandoning ourselves.

Over seven months, the course becomes a collective descent into truth. Through meditation, embodied practice, and shared inquiry, we learn to remain rooted in the ground of being while opening to experiences we may previously have feared, rejected, controlled, or placed outside love.

Each person brings the particular realities of their life—their wounds, longings, relationships, perceptions, and realizations—into the shared field. Each voice reveals something real, and the next receives and deepens it. What one person discovers changes what others can perceive. The particular people in the course shape what becomes possible for everyone to know.

Rather than applying a predetermined understanding of love, we allow lived experience to challenge and enlarge that understanding. We learn that tenderness need not exclude fierceness, vulnerability does not require self-abandonment, openness can include the holy NO, and rupture can become a doorway to repair. Love is distinguished from sentimentality, permitting harm, fixing, pleasing, and withdrawing from the complexity of being human.

No one, including the teacher, remains outside the inquiry or unchanged by it. Love is constitutive of our essential nature. Love is intrinsic to the ground, the path, and the flowering of realization.

Mentoring Freedom

In Freedom, we explore the freedom to be who we truly and naturally are—to know and enjoy our existence and live as the fullness of the ground.

Across fourteen sessions, all of us—including the teacher—enter an inquiry whose unfolding cannot be known in advance: What is waiting to live?

We open beyond what the intellect can grasp and enter into direct contact with life. We inhabit the essential self and bring the identities formed to protect us—and what the past has bound within the body—into embodied inquiry. Beneath these histories, we explore the ground of being that has never been injured.

Rooted in this ground, we discover our true distance from others and learn to open without abandoning ourselves. Thoughts, emotions, sensations, and perceptions become freer to move through the stillness of our being. The senses awaken. We practice acting and expressing ourselves without leaving the ground. We become more available to what is real—and to what wants to emerge through each of us and through the group as a whole.

Freedom does not culminate simply in our own gladness or spontaneity. Transformed by what we encounter, we participate wholeheartedly with others and in the world. We belong to the wildness within and around us—a cosmos ceaselessly manifesting. Even when anger, fear, and grief are present, we are free to love, create, speak, and delight in being alive. Our life unfolds as our greatest offering.

Carrying the Work Forward

I am honored that Jason von Halle and Marika Baxter are joining me in carrying this work forward. Beginning in September 2026, they will offer Mentoring Presence annually, followed each summer by Mentoring Intimacy. Their years of immersion in the Realization Process and the mentoring programs have given each of them a deep, embodied understanding of this work. They bring their own sensitivity, insight, and authentic expression to their teaching.

I will teach one advanced course annually, beginning with Mentoring Freedom in 2026–2027, followed by Mentoring Synergy in 2027–2028 and Mentoring Love in 2028–2029. I will also continue to offer Part One of the in-person Realization Process Teacher Trainings and summer retreats at my home in Los Altos Hills, California.

Reflections From Judith

“I think this is wonderful. I so much appreciate your building on and deepening what they have learned in their training. I also love that the course expresses what has been most meaningful, most true, to you in the work, and gives them a way to find what is most meaningful for them. My vision for the post-certification courses was that new teachers have a chance to learn from very experienced teachers what has been most important, and most transformative, for them, – the alchemy of their own personality and history with what I have taught — as well as how they have each brought it out into the world, and I think you have managed to do that beautifully.”
